C'mon, Idiots....find the courage to admit it...

No, the New York Times did.  You ignore it. Here ya go again:

Instead, Mr. Trump is targeting Brazil largely for political reasons — the prosecution of Jair Bolsonaro, his ally, who is accused of plotting a coup after he lost the last presidential election.

Mr. Trump has called the case a “witch hunt.’’ He is also targeting a Brazilian Supreme Court justice he believes is unfairly censoring conservative voices online.

Yet the tariffs were softened by hundreds of exceptions, including on some of Brazil’s most important exports to the American market, which could make the effect on Brazil’s economy less severe.

He IS tariffing that can of Kirkland Colombian coffee you mentioned, though. 10%. It's going to cost you more next time you buy it.

You can expect it to go up by well over the tariff amount, as the tariffs are paid by the importer BEFORE the stores get it, and the importer will require a profit on that expenditure. Also, the stiffer Brazilian tariffs will ripple through the market, allowing those purveying coffees from other countries to add a bit of markup.

That is how business works - retailers are going to charge what the market will allow. And with 35% of our coffee being tariffed at 50%, prices across the board can be expected to spike hard.

You can google it if you doubt me - though you're going to want to read past the headline if you feel a sudden ill-begotten urge to "refute" me.
So where is Starbucks getting THEIR coffee beans, genius?  In their backyard?

The tariff on Brazil is currently at 50%.  In Colombia, the tariff is 10%.
Now, pretend you're a business owner who was previously buying your coffee beans from Brazil before the tariffs, but now their price is 40% higher than Colombia because of the Trump tariff.  Do you switch suppliers or do you stupidly continue buying your coffee beans at the much higher price from Brazil?  And what do you think Brazil will do when they lose a huge percentage of their coffee bean sales as the US stops buying from them and increases their purchases from Colombia?

You really are an incredibly ignorant buffoon, aren't you?

Stop Slavery-Tainted Coffee at the Border | Coffee Watch

Apr 23, 2025 · Relying on an extensive body of evidence of slavery and forced labor in coffee harvesting in Brazil, Coffee Watch filed its petition today with the U.S. Customs and Border …

New Lawsuit and U.S. Customs and Border Patrol Complaints Allege Slavery and Human Trafficking in Starbucks’ Brazilian Coffee Supply Chain

Starbucks was dealt a double blow today as International Rights Advocates filed a U.S. lawsuit against the coffee titan alleging trafficking and Coffee Watch filed a petition with U.S. customs authorities asking the government to block imports from Brazil to the U.S. of coffee tainted by slavery and forced labor by top importers including Starbucks, Nestlé, JDE, Dunkin’, Illy, and McDonald’s. The petition could end slavery-tainted coffee imports to the U.S. from Brazil, a decision that would have significant consequences for Starbucks: the company relies heavily on coffee from Latin America, especially as escalating trade wars threaten Asian coffee supply chains.

For decades, the coffee industry in Brazil has relied on slavery and forced labor, often with internal migrants working in abusive conditions, for low or no wages, in unsanitary, overcrowded housing, facing violence and threats. The industry, including coffee giant Starbucks, knew about and decided to profit from the widespread pattern of trafficking and slavery in Brazilian coffee production.

Trump is wisely using the US massive economic superiority we enjoy to influence and put pressure on other countries like India and Brazil to do our bidding.  And if and when they do succumb to our wishes, those tariffs can just as easily be reduced or disappear.

You are suggesting that the US market does not need the Brazilian beans. That we can REPLACE that 35% of the entire market through some secondary country that just happens by some miracle to have those beans handy for sale.

What was this mythical country going to do with those beans BEFORE the tariffs? Eat em?

Are you dumb enough to believe that any other country that's already exporting coffee can't simply decide to plant more of it in order to grab a piece of that lucrative US business?
Here's the list that the US can choose to buy their coffee from, and I don't believe any of them will have a tariff of 50% on them as Brazil does:
Coffee Exports by Country
Below are the 15 countries that exported the highest dollar value worth of coffee during 2024.
  1. Brazil: US$11.4 billion (22.2% of total coffee exports)
  2. Vietnam: $4.2 billion (8.1%)
  3. Switzerland: $3.95 billion (7.7%)
  4. Germany: $3.79 billion (7.4%)
  5. Colombia: $3.55 billion (6.9%)
  6. Italy: $2.8 billion (5.5%)
  7. Indonesia: $1.6 billion (3.2%)
  8. Ethiopia: $1.45 billion (2.8%)
  9. Netherlands: $1.38 billion (2.7%)
  10. France: $1.34 billion (2.6%)
  11. Honduras: $1.28 billion (2.5%)
  12. Belgium: $1.28 billion (2.5%)
  13. India: $1.13 billion (2.2%)
  14. Uganda: $1.11 billion (2.2%)
  15. Peru: $1.1 billion (2.2%)
Apparently, it's your belief that a US coffee importer will shrug his shoulders and simply pay that tariff in order to continue buying their coffee from Brazil, when there are 14 other countries would would LOVE to have some of that US business, all which would be far cheaper than the new price that Brazil would be charging!

A word to the wise, don't EVER try to start your own business, nitwit.  I've got little doubt you'd lose your shirt, your pants, and probably your balls in record time!

Son, If I took the time to explain to you how the coffee brokerage business works, that would be time wasted.

I will give you the short version, you stupid, loud ****: The world is not currently producing a great deal more coffee than it consumes. In a signifcant number of cases, the coffee being produced is "spoken for" through forward contracts. The contracts that growers and brokers are under will not be easily disrupted because there is suddenly a bigger demand in the USA. Image

If that WERE the case, you stupe, Brazilian growers could simply play musical chairs with growers not under harsh USA sanctions. Duh - Trump would be powerless to harm them.

Well, I'd never bother to take the advice of an inexperienced peon like yourself, and thankfully I haven't.  I've just recently started up my sixth business which has taken me out of retirement and I fully expect it to be as lucrative as my last 5.  I've thrived over 50 years as a business owner and become quite wealthy by NOT following your idiotic advice!  So save it for morons like BV or others who you might have some influence over with your 10 cent wisdom.

Unlike you, I've got greater interests and concerns than whining about the possibility that my morning home-brewed coffee might cost me 20 cents a cup more.
If it's caused YOU such unimaginable consternation, I'm actually happy to hear about it!    :die:
