The 50 percent tariffs President Trump imposed on Brazil this week are some of the highest he has applied on any country this year as he reshapes a global trading system he deems unfair to the United States.

But the United States actually has had a trade surplus with Brazil for over a decade.Instead, Mr. Trump is targeting Brazil largely for political reasons — the prosecution of Jair Bolsonaro, his ally, who is accused of plotting a coup after he lost the last presidential election.

Mr. Trump has called the case a “witch hunt.’’ He is also targeting a Brazilian Supreme Court justice he believes is unfairly censoring conservative voices online.

Yet the tariffs were softened by hundreds of exceptions, including on some of Brazil’s most important exports to the American market, which could make the effect on Brazil’s economy less severe.

It is funny how after he PG'd me reposting Fuelman's post telling why the Tariff is in place and I started a thread using one of his goto sources, he finally reframed his opinion.

So it's not that big a deal to Brazil, then - that is what your source is saying.

Hundreds of exceptions. No big deal.

So let's look who's getting ****.

The federal treasury? Nope - it'll be helped, not hurt.
Brazil? Maybe a little, according to your source - but not a lot.

Who have I left out? I feel like I'm skipping a stake holder.

Anyone?

I see no discussion of WHY...

Is there a MAGAt who will defend the REASON for the tariffs on a nation with which we enjoy a trade surplus?

You think a 50% tariff on their coffee exports are only going to hurt Brazil "a little"?
Coffee exports amount to almost 20% of all of Brazil's trade revenue, with most going to the US.

And you don't think that's going to crush their bottom line?

And exactly what would you EXPECT Brazil to say, you **** moron?
"Oh no!  Our country will be devastated by these tariffs and we're now headed for the worst recession in our history if we can't sell our coffee crops to the US, which buys 20% of our coffee!  WE'RE DOOMED!"
Is THAT what you think they should say in their press release?

My nerves are just fine, Freud.  Responding to the kind of stupidity you possess is relaxing and quite enjoyable as I get to prove you're an economic imbecile every day for weeks at a time thanks to your continued stubborn ignorance!

We were discussing what the NYT said, you stupid queer. You butted in and attributed THEIR position to ME.

I made you aware of this, and you are continuing to argue this non-issue.

I don't give a **** what Brazil says. I care that ONE MEDIOCRE ORANGE was selling for a dollar at wally today. And I care that my coffee jones is about to get twice as expensive to maintain, you loud fool

It is clear that you are a retarded person.
