Rome? Come on. Rome was a republic, then an empire, then collapsed and split. It wasn’t the ‘modern Italian state’ you compared it to. By your standard, Italy also popped into existence out of nowhere in the 1860s. That’s exactly the point: nations can have long histories before their latest political form. Same with Ukraine. 

Here is the thing. I don't give a **** about Putin or Zelensky...I don't give a **** about this war. I care about the countries themselves, because they were here long before Putin/Zelensky and they will still be here long after...well maybe not Ukraine. But I bet in 20 yrs Ukraine will fight for it and maybe win some land back. Such is history. That's just the way nations are. Borders extend...they shrink...they change.

No, it's not my position. It's historical fact.

The Ukrainians never had a state until 1991. Peiod. And EVEN THEN, it was not an ethno-state. It had a 27% minority population made up of Poles, Hungarians, Romainians, Russians, Moldavans, Tatars, and Jews.After the coup, it started viciously persecuting those minorities, using ACTUAL NAZIS to do the persecuting against the ethnic Russian minorities.

This insult was INTENDED to goad Russia into war.
