Many women dated abusers before they were married to them. Shouldn't that have been a red flag to these women before they signed on the dotted line? Then they have children with them, knowing that they are abusers. And of course, these women are considered victims, though they knew what kind of person they married. 

I can't seem to find sympathy for them.  Why are we considering them victims when they knew what kind of person they chose to marry?

No. Some women are really stupid.

They secretly enjoy being abused. Many of the photos of underage teenage girls on Epstein Island included shots where they were smiling wistfully. On CNN, a “crazy” (not so crazy) woman said that many women have rape fantasies because they’re “sexy.”

I would see it the opposite. 

I would have MORE sympathy for women who had warnings. It means they have some deep-seated issues, likely related to childhood abuse.

Rape FANTASIES are just that. They're not an invitation. They happen in perfect safety - for titillation. 

They excuse nothing.

So that makes them stupid then? If I burned myself with a stove when I was younger, then I would be smart enough to know that I shouldn't touch hot stoves for the rest of my life.

Did you once love that stove? Did that stove bring home the food and put a roof over your head?

Childhood damage gets worked out - often in less than ideal ways - in the adult years. 

My own childhood - like most people's, I imagine - had a fair amount of trauma and dysfunction. I spent many thousands of dollars and many years doing personal improvement work. I've read hundreds of books toward that same end. 

My brothers did not do any of that. One died at the hands of police - an incorrigible and violent criminal. Another died in the street, alone, on a cold and rainy night. Another is on oxygen, from years of self-abuse. Like the women in your OP, they carried their childhood trauma into their adult years, and they worked it out in less than ideal ways. Like the women in your OP, they were at the effect of it, rather than making themselves cause in the matter of working through it.

I also carried that trauma. I believe my method of working through it was more salubrious. I will likely die a very old man. But I am the exception to the rule. The majority of people get bent in a certain direction in their youth and are incapable of changing direction when they get older.

I understand where you are coming from. You went through a lot. Obviously, that will have an effect on anyone. No doubt. What I don't understand is how these women cannot see abusers as a red flag when they grew up under it. There has to be something that triggers in their conscious about how her kids are going to grow up in the same dysfunctional way that she did. Do they deliberately ignore that voice in their head?

What happened to a 'mother's instinct?' You know. Mama bear coming out. Does that just vanish while their trauma takes over?

Vanish? Hell no.

Let anyone EXCEPT the abuser so much as disturb a hair on the head of the children, and you will see the fires of hell come forth. 

But the abuser slips through the cracks, indistinguishable from the love and the support that accompanies the abuse.

The mother interprets the abuser's violence as love. Everyone else has tosuck the pipe when Mama Bear wakes up. There will be a lot of unconscious compensating built in to her rage. Nothing but blood will expiate.

I would say damaged. 

Emotional damage does not reflect on IQ - though a high IQ can be helpful in working through emotional damage.
