This is a good thing, in my opinion. It's the free market at work.Vegas » 11 Sep 2025, 11:31 am » wrote: ↑ There are a few reasons that have been attributed to it. Tariffs and the immigration policy mostly. Most of the revenue came from middle class families. Not the high rollers. They can't depend on high rollers and the rich to keep the casinos here afloat. They are going to need to do something to attract the families again.
The tariffs are being blamed because prices are higher. The middle class cannot afford to come to Vegas and have a good time. There is a hotel here that charges $18 for a bottle of water. I **** you not.
The immigration policy is being blamed because people are afraid that there has been a lot of policy changes in the hotel/casinos. Some may feel that they are not welcomed. There are a boat load of immigrants who work in casinos. The housekeepers, floor assistants, laundry, etc...People may be afraid that there are major shake-ups happening, so they don't want to come.

I've not gone to Vegas in at least 3 years because the prices have gotten absurd.
If people stop going, then they will have to reduce prices to draw people back. That's how America works.
I remember driving down the Strip during Covid with my son and daughter on our way down to San Diego.
We saw ONE other car in about 3 miles on the strip.
My kids asked if we were breaking some law by being out in public in that town.
All the hotels were dark, all the marques were off. It was the weirdest thing ever.
I haven't heard anything about that. However, if it is causing them to come home, then good. We don't want them.Cannonpointer » 11 Sep 2025, 4:55 pm » wrote: ↑ That's only one cyclone in a perfect storm, I've heard it rumored.
I'm told Cali is summoning its people home, forcing them to pay income taxes in cali if their paycheck comes from there.
But I did not quite understand why that would force them to come back. Have you heard anything about this?
Quite a bit. I don't know the stats, but Canadians love Vegas

Vegas is once again stupidly bifurcating its economy into tourism AND a building boom.
Do you remember 2008?
I certainly understand and sympathize.
