Strange how can they pay if govt is shutdown?

The SNAP system needs a reboot! Pretty much anyone can lie about their income and no one in the government questions those income numbers.

We need a better system to weed out the criminals.

NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — A Rhode Island man, who had a six-figure salary as a state employee and is in the National Guard, was charged with wrongfully obtaining more than $17,000 in SNAP food assistance benefits, according to court documents.

Rhode Island State Police charged Dukenson Merisier, 37, of North Providence, with obtaining money by false pretenses.


In court documents obtained by WJAR, investigators accused Merisier of underreporting his income to fraudulently obtain SNAP benefits he was not eligible for during a two year period from 2022 to 2024.




Kern County unveils memorial for victims of violent crime

They state he “consistently falsified the amount of money he was receiving from the status of his employment” and used the benefits for himself, his parents, and his nephew.

Merisier’s most recent job, according to the court documents, was as a cyber security engineer at the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI).

State payroll records show his salary was $107,000, though he only worked at CCRI for about six months.

CCRI confirmed to WJAR Merisier’s employment ended in September 2024, but would not disclose why.

Investigators also claimed he underreported or failed to report income from his part time service in the Massachusetts National Guard and payments from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Before working at CCRI, court documents claimed he held multiple jobs during the time in question, including at an AI company for seven months that paid about $7,000 per month and at MIT’s Lincoln Labs for several months.

Who will pay it out if they ain’t working?

In the days of prohibition, the government actually expected people to rat on each other.
I'm not a drinker but even I can see the stupidity of prohibition enforced via squealers.
It means government has lost control of the situation.

Just like welfare cheats. Admit they have lost control and start to investigate tips on cheaters.

Stop the ineligible payouts and even ask for payback. That'd would for sure an uncollectible debt.
It could be taken it out of their SS benefits... Now who would want that **** to happen?  

The big difference is prohibition was a black market Joe Average was engaged in.
Welfare cheats are taking Joe Average's money. Big difference.

Why would he even be anywhere near eligible? WTF...

I was listening to a woman whose lifelong friend has been on SNAP since her son was born who recently turned 35...WTF? 

Her friend said she recently took a job working for her brother. Apparently this is her first job as the woman thought this was a great move as her friend's trying to turn her life around. She said it was good news so she could get off assistance. Her friend said there's no way she was going to give up SNAP and whatever else she was receiving, so she worked out a deal with her brother to get paid under the table with cash...
