How can this happen? For the first 3 quarters of 2025, the U.S. Treasury Department collected $195 billion from tariffs. Trump is proposing 2K a person refund. Depending on income cut-off, the payments could cost as much as $513 billion.  Image

I voted for a candidate that said he was going to lower the deficit. Trump said he was going to use that money to pay down the debt  :\

“People that are against Tariffs are FOOLS! We are now the Richest, Most Respected Country In the World, With Almost No Inflation, and A Record Stock Market Price. 401k’s are Highest EVER. We are taking in Trillions of Dollars and will soon begin paying down our ENORMOUS DEBT, $37 Trillion. Record Investment in the USA, plants and factories going up all over the place. A dividend of at least $2000 a person (not including high income people!) will be paid to everyone,”
Through the first three quarters of this year, the U.S. Treasury Department collected $195 billion from tariffs on foreign goods, the department said.

Exactly where the income cut-off would be for “high income” Americans is another open question. Many experts say the $195 billion collected in tariff revenue suggests the total annual number could fall significantly short of the funding needed to issue $2,000 checks.
“If the cutoff is $100,000, 150 (million) adults would qualify, for a cost near $300 billion. If kids qualify, that grows,” wrote Erica York, vice-president of federal tax policy at the Tax Foundation.
John Arnold, co-chair of Washington, DC-based Arnold Ventures, estimated the payments could cost as much as $513 billion.

Lets do the math...

1)  There are currently something like 160 million "filing" taxpayers in America (ref. below for 2024) !
2)  The tax refund is only for middle & low income taxpayers... but lets use 160 million !
3)  $2,000 refund x 160 million taxpayers = $320Billion (B) MAX (could be less)
4)  Tariff income per month: approx. $30B
5)  Expected tariff income for a full year: $30B x 12 months =  $340B
6)  What is the expected duration of $2,000 refund?  1 year ( I don't think anything more has been committed to)

SO...

Expected Tariffs collected $340B - $320B = $10B tariff income in year 1 (to debt reduction)... and $340B/year to debt reduction after...

OR... $1Trillion/3years, $3.3Trillion/decade

THAT's what it looks like to me...

AMERICA, and AMERICANS, NEED to WAKE up… There is NOTHING “Democratic” about the CURRENT American “Democrat Party”! THEY are more an amalgamation of Totalitarian Marxists, Socialists, Communists, and Globalists… who are BENT on TAKING, and then KEEPING power... & where ultimately the American PEOPLE will have NO SAY AT ALL in how we are GOVERNED... and our "Democracy" will be DEAD!!

The money from the tariffs is supposed to be paying down the debt   Image

The federal government raised $195 billion in customs duties in Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 so far

You do the rest of the math

I hope the USCC strikes this tariff nonsense down. I don't want the US deficit to climb. This is just as bad as the Covid-19 money.

This issue is not related to "me" or, as you stated, "you". I am unsure of what measures can be implemented other than removing the tariffs or being more discerning regarding the countries to which the tariffs are imposed?

Third Party?
