It brought attention to this. The status quo needs to change.
The specific issue identified by DOGE was that the Treasury Account Symbol (TAS), a code used to link a payment to a specific budget line item, was an optional field in their system and often left blank. This practice meant that approximately $4.7 trillion in payments had no proper ledger or traceability, raising significant concerns about accountability and transparency in federal spending.
