How does the wealthiest guy in the world not know econ 101? Universal income can eliminate poverty only if abundance grows faster than prices. That is an engineering, political, and structural problem, not just a monetary one.

Given the erratic behavior our beloved politicians and overall government structure, this is highly unlikely. We have to depend on the moral compasses of our leaders. Not going to happen. 

How does he not know that?

Much of work will be optional. However, the elimination of poverty is unrealistic. Our system is designed to consolidate wealth. The 5% will just have more money to consolidate, that's all. They will be able to leverage AII to perfect monopolies, not disrupt them.

As SJConspirator used to say, many of th3 scarcities today are manufactured. We already see this with farm subsidies disincentivizing corporate agriculture from growing more food than what is needed to achieve a profit target. 

Also, economists (from either side of the aisle) have tabulated the cost of UBI and it will cost many times more (per year) compared to whatever savings were generated from DOGE, whether those savings were true or not (hint: probably nowhere as magnificent as the conman says)

Musk is part of the whole elite takeover, so his words mean nothing to me. Whatever UBI he is referring to, it is only to establish leverage for the billionaires.
