I do not think it means what you think it means.
Did you know that even in the founders' day, a judge was allowed to sentence people for criminal acts WITHOUT A TRIAL?
I know what you are thinking - EVERYONE is due THAT process. But that is false.
Only those who do not enter a guilty plea are due a trial - all others may be sentenced for their crimes without one.
You are focused on that word "process," and you
need to focus on that word, "due."
We are absolutely due certain processes,
unless we affirmatively waive those processes.
The government does have to prove you're crazy before finding you so - unless of course they find you so
at your request. Yeah - if you TELL them that you're crazy,
and ask them to take care of you,
part of that care might be disarming you.
If you get better and can take care of YOURSELF, like a big boy, then maybe you can get your guns back?
But here's the good news: No one forces you to go into a government office and insist that you're not competent. That's something you have a say about, and you can just say no.
I know that's a lot to sort and you're not that great a sorter - but you'll get it sorted (hopefully, in lower case letters).
