It was an abuse of power.
You didn't answer the first part of my question.
Why did Trump call him to Trump Tower on November 30th and ask him to stay on?

A political partisan hack?
He was appointed by Obama but he went after mostly Democrats.

The government in New York State is full of corruption and he was cleaning it up.

Dinesh D' Souza pleaded guilty to committing a felony and got 8 months in a half way house near his home.
He actually committed two felonies but was allowed to plead guilty to only one.

And you call that being persecuted?

D'Souza alleged that he was selectively prosecuted and that the indictment was politically motivated, but United States District Judge Richard M. Berman rejected that contention, stating, "The court concludes the defendant has respectfully submitted no evidence he was selectively prosecuted."

Once again you prove my point that you will defend any criminal with an R after their name.

Preet Bharara went after mostly Democrats, so it's hard to make the argument that his prosecution of D'Souza was politically motivated.

Edit: A clearer picture is beginning to emerge.

Under the jurisdiction of the Southern District of NY, is Fox News Channel, which is under investigation by federal prosecutors to determine whether it broke securities law in making payments in the sexual harassment scandal.

Trump Tower is also in that district, so it looks like they really want to replace Bharara with someone who actually IS a political partisan, which is why they are looking at Marc Mukasey.
