That's 'houses' plural, as in not just ours.

1. I hardly even have any neighbors to hate on me, since most of the houses closest to us are summer people who don't live here year round, and.....
2. There are very few kids in this community, and none anywhere near our house.
Mostly retired folks.
I think the average age is around 52.
