Progressives took over the Democrat party and only a few real liberals like Joe Lieberman are left. Progressivism is far to the left of real liberal beliefs. Denial of God is one major difference. Many liberals moved to the conservatives because the two philosophies are much closer together than the far leftwing progressivism.
I know you like to call everyone who does not agree with you (including me) an atheist, but I have never denied God.
