What Clem said about Newt Gingrich:She (Maddow) lied the other night that Gingrich resigned under a cloud of ethics charges. No, he was cleared of every single false allegation made against him, except one very minor technical violation.Nor did Gingrich resign because of the one, count 'em, 1 minor ethics charge of which he was guilty.He resigned because Repubs did badly in the '86 (Misty: 86? WTF?) elections and because Beltway Repubs wanted to go native. They were tired of fighting for conservative principle.Anyone who watches the video or reads the transcript in my last post can see that Clem is clearly lying.It was the first time in the House's 208-year history that it disciplined a Speaker for ethical wrongdoing, and Gingrich paid an unprecedented $300,000 penalty.Hardly sounds like 'one very minor technical violation' as Clem puts it.Gingrich did not resign in 1998 because 'Repubs did badly in the '86 elections' (WTF?). His party turned against him.All the evidence you need is on the video I posted. It shows Republicans like John Boehner, Christopher Shays, Peter King and Mark Sanford, all expressing how they felt about Gingrich at the time.Maddow lied through her teeth a couple weeks ago that Gingrich resigned under a cloud of ethics charges.
