We are a few days late with this, but it bears repeating if you haven’t already seen it: deaths at the U.S.’s Southern border have declined during the Trump administration:
You keep conflating two different issues.
There have always been deaths due to people trying to illegally enter the country through the desert or across the Rio Grande.
Most of those were adult male Mexican men coming here to find work.
They were NOT families who were seeking asylum.
And the reason those deaths have declined is because Mexico's economy has improved and not as many of those men are coming here to find work.
That is not at all what is happening now.
Because families from Central America who are coming here to seek asylum are being turned away, or told they will have to wait at a legal port of entry indefinitely, they are trying to enter the country in between the legal ports of entry, which is much more dangerous.
And as a result, this is what we are seeing.
The people who died crossing the border under Obama were not asylum seekers who were turned away.
He did NOT turn away asylum seekers.
And Obama had no control over how many Mexicans were coming here to find work and crossing the border illegally.
That number goes up and down according to how the Mexican economy is doing.
