It was the House's job to put its case together, subpoenaing witnesses and evidence if necessary.

He blocked everyone from testifying by invoking 'absolute immunity' which is not even a real thing.
There is no such privilege.
If not for the courage of people like Lt.Colonel Vindman, Maria Yovanovitch and Fiona Hill who defied his order not to testify, the House hearings would have had no witnesses at all.
