True story. I work with a 21 year old black kid. I axed him where he stood on the trans issue, in front of several coworkers. He said he really had no position - hadn't really thought the matter through. Admitted that he found it confusing. I responded, "Because I am trans."
He said, "You're transgender?"
I told him, "No, I'm transracial."
He axed me how that worked, and I said, "Well, you can see that I'm a white guy - right? But I IDENTIFY as black. And because I IDENTIFY as black, that means I get to use the n word."
His response was immediate and adamant: "Oh no you don't! Oh no you don't!"
I said to him, "Why, Delanamore (name changed to protect the innocent). It looks to me like you HAVE taken a firm position on the trans issue." And there was much, much laughter all around.
