The real question is: can a person believe that a divine or far-advanced being could create the Universe, knowing that it would eventually give rise to intelligent life, but stay "hands-off" in interfering with the course of that Universe or the life it contains?  I think this is approximately what @Deezer Shoove  believes (but he can speak for himself).  In such a creation, it could lead to life which doesn't have souls, or at least in this thought experiment it is possible.

In other words, intelligent design doesn't necessarily lead to souls.  The two can be mutually exclusive. In that line of thinking, Humans create artificial "realms" all the time and call them video games. Interject generative AI in those "games" and we might end up creating a universe that is completely soulless.
I believe in some incomprehensible power, energy, entity that causes the universe to "start". That concept even of itself is unfathomable. I hate to use the word "create" because I don't even know if that applies.
Man's fear of the unknown, coupled with being self-aware, brought about a "God Myth" to which we connect ourselves with by having a soul. Whatever that actually means... beats me.
Are there others out there? Accidents, experiments, creations in God's image? So far, we have absolutely no idea.

Your beliefs could be as right on mark as mine. We don't know. Maybe never will.
I don't require a soul the be a self-aware animal with all the doubts and unanswerable questions.
The bible (along with other such tomes) has a lot of good things to guide a decent life.
The Golden Rule is its punchline or moral of the story. That's enough for me.

The movie "Pi" gets into a crossover of philosophy, religion, mathematics.
I find that stuff fascinating. We humans keep scratching at it but the answers never quite pop up.
Ancient Aliens, megaliths of incredible size, evolution, etc.
