It does fire mini-rockets. It was not designed as a shark gun. As I recall (from memory) It was actually in limited use in the Vietnam war. It was rather quiet, little recoil, but had the reverse velocities of a traditional firearm. The round would start out relatively slow and then speed up to become lethal as it approached the target.
