If ANYONE thought the Elon Musk's effort to RE-MAKE Twitter was over... THEY were wrong !! Today it was announced that Elon Musk, after declining to sit on the board of Directors, OFFERED to BUY Twitter for $54/share... and to TAKE it PRIVATE !! He wrote in the filing that he'd want to "transform" the social media platform as a private company. He said: "I invested in Twitter as I believe in its potential to be the platform for free speech around the globe, and I believe free speech is a societal imperative for a functioning democracy,"... "However, since making my investment I now realize the company will neither thrive nor serve this societal imperative in its current form." Musk said the takeover attempt is "not a threat, it's simply not a good investment without the changes that need to be made."
I think the take over effort was a "probing"... to see if the take over of Twitter was feasible... and the PATH of LEAST resistance! IF the take over does NOT WORK... EXPECT Musk to RE-FOCUS on CREATING a NEW Social Media platform... WHILE, EXPOSING ALL of twitter's FLAWS and FAILURES... OF WHICH... MUZZLING free speech being ONE of them !!

Excellent article and commentary, ROG62! This one surprised me. I thought Musk would want a board position to force change. But, this strategy of his is much better. As long as he does not sit on the board, he owes no duty to the company or shareholders to act in its best interest. He can go form a competing company and nothing can stop him.
We'll have to see how many shares Musk can accumulate. He's got the money. Twitter sure doesn't, because it hasn't figured out how to monetize its product.
Now, can the likes of George Soros, Bill Gates, Zuckerberg and friends start buying up Twitter too to put control out of Musk's reach? We shall see.
