Does it really help for Trump to get combative during these interviews. If the interviewer is asking bad questions - this does happen, I'd rather see Trump give a thoughtful, well informed responses where he rejects the interviewer's premises and then proceed to explain why its a false narrative with facts. This is stronger than what he actually did.
What you are describing is precisely what Putin does - off the cuff, regularly.
He fields questions routinely - and I'm not talking about from friendly media. I'm talking about from western media - the unfriendliest kind. He has absolute command of the facts, never falls into gotchas, always comes off classy and a winner. He doesn't make fools of reporters. He lets them do that to themselves.
