And while we're on the topic, I believe you've mistaken rome for ghengis khan. The romans were not known for genocidal actions in retribution for failure to surrender. There is no general agreement among historians that rome EVER practiced genocide. Some argue that Carthage was genocidal in both intent and effect - and I agree with that camp. But pushing it any farther than that one-off is not widely accepted. 

You're thinking of the khans.
