Imagine you have a giant bag of Goldfish crackers, and you want to know if they are all orange or if there are some green ones in there, too.

There are way too many to count, and you’re hungry! So, you just reach in and grab one small handful.
* If all the crackers in your hand are orange, you can guess that the whole bag is probably orange.
* If you find one green one in your hand, you know there must be more green ones hiding in the bag.

Statistical sampling is just taking that one little handful to figure out what’s inside the whole big bag without having to eat every single cracker first!

Do you want to try picking a "sample" of crayons or legos to see what colors we find?
CNN takes a sample of about 1,200 people and turns it into: “Three‑quarters of Americans say” and you run with it as though it's "statistical sampling". Your little Goldfish analogy fails every published requirement for statistical sampling. Actual statistical sampling — as defined in standard research methodology — requires:
  • probability‑based selection (every member has a known chance of being chosen)
  • representative composition (sample matches the population)
  • adequate sample size (large enough for stable estimates)
  • known margin of error (quantified uncertainty)
  • unbiased measurement (neutral, non‑leading questions)
  • transparent methodology (disclosure of sampling method, weighting, field dates, etc.)
A handful of crackers satisfies none of these. It’s a children’s analogy, there is nothing "statistical" here. You're a **** idiot. I have told you before, ask the ex-wife to proofread anything dealing with stats and numbers.

So, let's recap the Ignorance here...shall we.
