Largely overlooked, ya say. What was al qaeda in Afghanistan against the Soviets? What were the Kurds against Assad? What were the Contras in Nicaragua? What were the UNITA and FNLA rebel groups in Angola?
Botht he Soviets and the Western Bloc fought nothing BUT proxy wars for decades.
