But some of it doesn't apply to me. I'm in an apartment. I can't fortify anything besides the front door. I have guns, i live in AZ, everyone has guns. :-) But water, being in az, is going to be a problem besides what I can store in my apartment. I have limited real estate :-). And if the electric goes out, and my AC goes out, I can't stay here in 115 degree weather. So I have to bug out. And if my car don't work due to an EMP pulse...

I guess I'm **** if the SHTF. :-)
The key is to out-survive the hoards. The last thing I'd want to do is be out and about when every other angry fools is doing the same. In your situation, staying put is probably not a great option.  Those who get out first would have a better chance at finding a place to shack up for a short time.

In a SHTF scenario, a long term food supply would be my biggest concern, with water being a far second.  I have a stream that runs through the far side of my land, but nothing is set up to irrigate crops. Even if I could ultimately plant my own food, that takes lots of time, lots of chance at failure. Over the long haul, if civilization isn't quickly restored, you need to find a good source of food.  Everyone thinks you can just raise chickens or rabbits or grow ****. Chicken and rabbits need food too, and bugs will eat nearly everything you grow.
