In your situation, staying put is probably not a great option.  Those who get out first would have a better chance at finding a place to shack up for a short time.

In a SHTF scenario, a long term food supply would be my biggest concern, with water being a far second.  I have a stream that runs through the far side of my land, but nothing is set up to irrigate crops. Even if I could ultimately plant my own food, that takes lots of time, lots of chance at failure. Over the long haul, if civilization isn't quickly restored, you need to find a good source of food.  Everyone thinks you can just raise chickens or rabbits or grow ****. Chicken and rabbits need food too, and bugs will eat nearly everything you grow.
Wild rabbits live on weeds.
Domestic rabbits do better on pasture grass...but don't let my knowledge and experience  keep you from  having your  opinions.

I can toss handfulls of cereal grass seed over my shoulder blindfolded and it will grow. It helps to scratch the seed in with a rake.
Peas of all types grow very well on poor land and will improve the soil.
Same goes for potatoes...except do yourself a favor and grow them inside a stack of tires and place copper foil around the top rim of your "planter box" to deter slugs.. Keep adding tires and soil as the plants grow. The idea is to keep the plant 3/4 of the way below ground to encourage more spuds to form.

If you are convinced that I am wrong and you are right...don't let me stop you though....
