No, actually a lot of what you said makes good sense, especially with what crops are easy to grow.
As for small game, like wild rabbits, in a real SHTF scenario, every guy with a shotgun, pellet gun or a .22 will be thinking the same thing - "
I can always harvest rabbit". If the city folks ever make it out past the burbs alive, they will be attacking anything with 4 legs on it to feed themselves and their families. All I was pointing out is that If you have domestic rabbits or chickens, you should be able to sustain that for awhile so long as you have enough food to feed them.
The real question is: 1) do you stock up on MRE's which might last you a year; or 2) do you stock up on seeds, fertilizer, etc. to try and grow your own food? I mean, if you can do both, then by all means, do both. But, if I had to choose one over the other, I think I'd choose a years supply of MRE's.
I'm talking about capturing a mating pair of wild rabbits and trying to raise a colony in captivity. During the late spring / early summer is when you can find wild rabbit kittens in brush piles. They must already be "off of the mother" and basically "teenagers" for this idea to work... they need mother's milk to fully form their digestive tracts which are very fragile.
Hunting is too time consuming and dangerous..even if you use bait...trapping is the way to go. Problem is it takes experience and practice..you don't want to wait until you are "under the gun" to learn the little tricks.
Here is a rat trap that really works....

Rat isn't my first choice for a meal...but this idea [A PIT FALL] could be adapted to trapping other critters..how about a wild hog...?
