At this point you need to explain what was modified.  What was changed to make a civilian design is what need to explain. But it is a moot point.  You can ban the Original Sporter all you like.  No **** problem.  But the today's AR 15 semi automatics were not designed for the battlefield.  You have no argument.

The original AR15 was designed for combat. The AR15 Sporter was a very short lived VERSION of the original design, modified to make it legal for civilan sale.


The "Colt AR15 style" sporting thing is a semiautomatic variant of the M-16 - a weapon designed for combat, borrowing many principles of the original AR15 design.


Period.
