There have been several Justices who ran for POTUS or other elective offices.
John Jay, the first Chief Justice, ran twice for elected office without resigning from the Supreme Court.
And William Howard Taft joined the Supreme Court AFTER he was President, so everyone knew were he stood politically.
You mean the way Scalia recused himself from a case involving his duck hunting buddy Dick Cheney?
