I never claimed to be an expert on email servers.
When I said 'gone is gone' what I meant was that for the purposes of the Congressional Committee who was requesting those emails, they were not available.
So it made no difference if they were just deleted or forensically wiped out.
The Committee was told they were 'missing.'

I guess you missed the part about how Bush's White House staffers (including Karl Rove) were not using government servers.
They were using a private server that belonged to the Republican National Committee, so nothing was backed up.
